Join the worldwide phenomenon

June
I retired 3 years ago and realised I would need something to keep my brain active, so I treated myself to a Nintendo DS. The first game I tried was Brain Training and I just fell in love with it.

The perfect way to relax - wherever you are

If you want to find out more about the Nintendo DS, you've come to the right place.

The Nintendo DS is a hand-held console that enables you to play games like Dr Kawashima's Brain Training and many others. Its compact and light design features a rechargeable battery, which makes it ideal to carry around the house or take on journeys. There are lots of games and software available for the Nintendo DS that will cater to all tastes. All come with instructions, so it's easy to understand what to do.

Inside, it has 2 screens which make using the system intuitive - both screens can be used for viewing content but the lower screen also has a touch-screen feature that can be used to simply make your selection without having to remember which button does what. In certain games, like Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, you can write your answers on the 'touch-screen' with the pen (we call it a stylus). There are two speakers that allow you to hear in-game instructions or music, an indicator that tells you how much power you have left before you have to recharge the battery, and other controls and buttons that you will only need to use if the game requires it. Most games though use this touch screen to make it simple and easy to use.

And thanks to the sheer variety of games and software available, it doesn't matter what you're looking for we should have it covered. Whether you enjoy sudoku, puzzle solving, cookery, or keeping fit and healthy or even reading a book - the Nintendo DS can offer all this and will open up completely new ways for you to experience your favourite activities.

How to play

Naturally, every game is different, and each one has a unique way to interact, from writing the answers on-screen with the pen-like stylus, through to voice-recognition with the inbuilt microphone and more traditional styles of gameplay that require the use of the other controls.

Of course, every new game you buy will have clear on-screen instructions and a comprehensive instruction manual to get you started, helping you enjoy the game within minutes.
